What is Sound Nest?

The Sound Nest (Klankennest) collective develops an artistic program for children aged 0 to 4, with a focus on music and visual arts. With a permanent group of artists, Sound Nest creates performances, installations, concerts, and museum tours that invite both children and (grand)parents to a journey of wonder and exploration.

Every child possesses a natural sensitivity to sound, experimentation, and sensory experiences. Sound Nest is convinced that stimulating this sensitivity has a beneficial effect on a child’s development, even before birth. That’s why we offer parents the opportunity to introduce their children to music and art in a qualitative way from the very first months and years.

Sound perception in young children is a complex process that involves more than just listening: they experience music through their senses, with their entire body, and in constant interaction with what they see and feel. The best listening and learning environment for a child is a place where they can explore and play freely. Every creation focuses on establishing an artistic context that supports and stimulates this active and "physical" way of listening.

A transdisciplinary approach is essential: sound, image, and movement merge in a warm and safe environment that stimulates the senses. Sound Nest avoids spoken language, resulting in a poetic yet abstract and universal aesthetic. The imagination of the very young is constantly stimulated, but with as little direction as possible.

Sound Nest creates not only for, but also with the very young. The dialogue that emerges between the child and the artist during a performance is the driving force of the creative process, inspiring both to express themselves. Stimulating this interaction between artist, child, and parent is central to our artistic vision. Making music, playing, and experiencing together fosters connection and has a positive influence on children.
